Short break to Sitges - April/May 2010
There will be a Dining Out short break to Sitges from Thursday 29 April to Tuesday 4 May (note that Monday 3 May is an Irish bank holiday). Weekend plans will include meals out, airport shuttle and tours. We have secured accommodation in the Sunway Amapola Apartments, which are located about 1 kilometre from the centre of Sitges.
Sitges is located 35kms south of Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Not only is Sitges beautiful in every respect, from its quaint, narrow streets to its beautiful beaches but in terms of sheer convenience for the gay holiday-maker, there's nowhere else like it. Everything from the gay bars to the gay discos to the gay restaurants to the gay beaches to the gay cruising area to gay shopping are all within a 5 minute walk of each other. It's the perfect gay holiday in a neat little package! Diversity is the norm in Sitges rather than the exception and people from all walks of life are made welcome. If you've always wondered what the world would be like if we could all live side by side without sexual orientation being an issue, this is where to see how it's done! If you've never been to Sitges, you really don't know what you're missing. It has a very special culture. It may not be blatantly obvious at first, but once you take a step back, relax and watch what's going on around you, you'll realize what a very special place Sitges is. Come and join in the fun, get to know the locals and their habits, and have a holiday like you've never had before!

We were originally booked on the following Ryanair flights:
Dublin to Reus - Thursday 29 April, Depart 09:50 Arrive 13:20
Reus to Dublin - Tuesday 4 May, Depart 14:05 Arrive 15:45
However, Ryanair made significant changes to their flight schedule and the return flight was changed to 06:40 instead of 14:05.
If you booked the 14:05 flight you can get a refund for this flight by phoning Ryanair on 01 2480856 (Mon-Fri 9am-5:45pm).
The cost of return flights is currently around €150 including taxes, charges and 1 checked-in bag of up to 15kg.
There are other flight options available with
Aer Lingus and
Ryanair.
You can travel on other flights if you wish to have a longer/shorter stay, but most of the group will be on these flights.
We will try to arrange a private bus for transfer from Reus to the apartments (€13 approx.). The transfer time from
Reus to the apartments is just under an hour.
Accommodation:
We are staying in the Sunway Amapola Apartments, which are located about
1 kilometre from the centre of Sitges.
Accommodation consists of one-bedroom apartments with 1 twin bedroom, living area with 2 individual sofa beds, kitchenette,
en-suite bathroom and balcony. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, an oven and natural gas hearths. There is cutlery and
bed linen in the apartment, which is also equipped with satellite TV and security safe.
Distances:
Beach: 350 metres, Centre: 1.2 km, Railway station: 1.4 km, Bus station: 1 km, Golf club: 1.1 km, Bus stop: 100 metres,
Medical centre: 1.1 km
Barcelona is only about 30 minutes away by train and there is a
frequent service each day.
Price:
The apartments cost €43 per night. This includes taxes, charges, linen and final cleaning. Please note that hand and bath
towels, tea-cloths and kitchen towels are not included in the inventory.
This will bring the cost of 5 nights self-catering accommodation to:
€108 per person for 2 sharing
€215 per person for single
Total basic price for person sharing = €283 (€150 flights, €108 accommodation, €25 transfer).
Total basic price for person in single = €390 (€150 flights, €215 accommodation, €25 transfer).

A booking deposit of €50 by Friday 15 January is required for the accommodation, with the balance due by 31 March 2010.
This booking deposit can be paid to any Dining Out committee member.
You must book your own flights.
There is an overall €10 guest fee for non-members going on this short break.
